Search for:. But where exactly is it kept? Answer 2. Object authority is stored in the Header. This dump seems to vary by object type. If you dump a database file you get the space information. If a display file you also get the space info, but the public authority seems to be in a different place.
If a program, no space information, no public authority. Answer 2 Footnote. The authority is stored differently according to different object types. Answer 3. The exceptions are device creation and message queue creation. This is not a big problem as there is the system has Authorization Lists for both of these object types.
I would like to give the programs access to the files and not the user. We have been a S36 shop and are converting over and as part of this conversion would like to secure all production files from unauthorized access. The S36 setup is really poor security. One way to secure files from access other than by programs is to have them owned by one user profile. This profile is not a group profile.

This shouldn't have caused an issue with the shared folders on the iSeries. Also none of the PC's in question were updated? Windows passwords do not change here. Ok my first question is, when accessing this folder is it authenticating with the AS?
I just want to rule out it being a Microsoft server domain issue. As far as folder permissions, the extent of my AS skills is creating user accounts, resetting passwords, fixing printer issues, etc. I do have iSeries Navigator loaded. When the connection is created on the windows machine you have 3 options Never prompt, Prompt as needed, Always prompt.
Since nothing was changed on that end I dont think these are an issue though. Another option if you do not know the path is to click on File Shares this will outline the path for you. Once you have that you can right click and go to permissions and set accordingly.
If this isn't it we can look further. Well I did not get very far in iNavigator. I do not see expand file systems anywhere. In the window I have, My Connections and the I. If I go to File - Explore nothing happens. If I do File - Open I get a blank window. That is one of my questions. Since the folder is on the iSeries and it is the AS login that is required to access the folder I thought it was authenticating with the iSeries.
Another option would be that the software update required some OS patches. Do you know if any new patches were installed during the process?
Does the updated application store data in the shared folder where the users are connecting? Could a security change have been made during the upgrade? I would say their network cabling is not the problem. This system is more than likely their core ERP system and if a loss of connectivity there would be more problems. I agree with you on the most likely issue. I only wanted to make sure that the less likely were not overlooked. I wanted to make sure you saw my previous post about iNavigator.
If I cannot find it I am hoping it enough info that I can give to our programmer and he can get there and take care of it.
