If you want a kerenalEX which is quite difficult to make you can contact BlackWingCat he was a genius on that. That would be awesome! Could finally stop asking people for things and do something myself. Anyway, if you could make a video on how to do that, I would love to contribute to helping the current state of compatibility with Windows Vista, because here lately, it has been uncontrollably diminishing, in some instances even faster than the support for XP. It has gotten to a point where I can't even use it as my main OS anymore, whereas less than a year ago, I could do so easily.

Bing Wallpaper Explore the world one photo at a time with a new background each day Download now. Choose the files that didn't download. I've been using it in my C1 router without any problems since it was released in August. I will download and flash that ASAP to see how it goes. One last. C1 routers are picky about that. My transfer rate of the file is now a blistering 1.
What transfer rate do you get then? Do you have any security product installed on the computers that might be scanning the traffic in real time and therefore limiting the speed? These are usually Internet Security type suites with firewall modules, or stand-alone firewalls. If the answer is yes, then disable them 2. What is the transfer rate when connecting the two computers together directly?
Is it only over wireless? Check transfer speeds for wired connections between the two computers, with the router in between. Have you tried other file sharing protocols, such as FTP?
Have you tried switching the wireless connection channel? Don't go for 11, try different ones between 1 and See if that changes anything. What is the position of the antennas? That would be great for testing. Everythings disabled, firewall and spyware. No antivirus on either computer 2. I haven't tried this as currently it would be very difficult to get them close enough to try 3.
Yes it's over just wireless and I have tried with one comp on wired to the router and the other wireless but right now its a very big hassle to try both wired 4. Yes I have tried several channels Currently on channel 1 because every other wireless connection around are on either 6 or 11 mostly 11 6. Thats how I always keep the antennas : 7.
Do you mean like torrent? I have utorrent on both comps but I don't know how to set it up where I can share via it. In fact I am going to try and look that up now! Not nearly what I was hoping for but much better!
Also, I now have to figure out why one keeps dropping from to then down to 30 and fluctuates constantly while my other desktop further from the router stays steady at Oh well, so much work for simple file transfer!
Of all dd-wrt firmwares only e1 works for me. Get dire4-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware. I tried this firmware, but not through emergency interface. I upgraded it through the 'firmware upgrade' page of dd-wrt. It didn't flash, gave an error? In what way didn't it work for you?
In any way. I have the F3 version of the DIR? Does anyone here have any experience or knowledge about the F3 version? Title: Re: Guide to DD-WRT custom firmware for DIR Post by: buckm on December 05, , AM I have the d version of the router and I didn't do a hard reset, i just upgraded it using the upgrade feature in the existing d-link firmware, worked like a dream, was just like upgrading to a new d-link version.
I think it depends on the revision. On D it's not necessary. On C or E it might be. You could do it just to be on the safe side. It's not supported at the moment. Might be in the future, but not sure how long. I'm fairly new to. Also is this router only 2. I've been having trouble recently with my Xbox not getting optimal speeds for some reason. Thats on speedtest. In Mixed mode G clients will work at G speeds and N clients at N speeds, however, if you use them at the same time, they will obviously share the wireless channel's bandwidth.
So if you have a G client connected and active, it will use up bandwidth and you won't be able to achieve full N rates on the N client until the G one goes idle. But theoretically, yes, the G and N clients work simultaneously at their supposed rates. Another thing to consider is the wireless security. It's part of the specification. If you use something lower, your N client will fall back to G rates. I turned mine to 40 Mhz though and it works fine.
Channel selection is also important, if you are in a densely populated area with a lot of wireless networks around that use the same channel as yours, the performance will be poor. Try experimenting with different channels to see if there's any difference.
My neighborhood isn't crowded with wireless routers. I see one constant router and one that drops in and out. For some reason it only let's my select Auto or Channel 4 if I try to manually select a channel. Control is on upper which I have no clue what that means. I have two Xbox s, and an iPod Touch. Those are the three main wireless components in my house.
My Xbox is the furthest away from the router. My room is. My Xbox is top priority then my brothers not being greedy, he just doesn't use it as much as I do then my iPod. Both Xboxs are N capable, iPod is G. The desktop is mostly for web and downloads, no PC gaming at the moment. I can't use the desktop as it's being used, and I can't select the Status tab on my iPod, but here are the other stats that I can pull up.
I can't really move my router anywhere else. Also there's a printer and a not used monitor beside it, as well as the desktop being on the same desk. Side note: I was also wondering about the QoS. Enable it or no? The thing it my speeds keep varying. Most of the time I get either 50 or even more have had up to Mbps download speeds and about 8 - 12 upload speeds usually on the lower end.
First I upgraded dirD1 from version 4. With ver. So the reason for upgrading firmware to dd-wrt was multicast trouble with version 4. After I updated dirD1 my laptop show the wireless speed only mps.
IPTV stream on cable connection works fine but with wireless not. What parameters should I set? Im considering to get back on firmware 4. What can I say Im used to watch TV on my laptop. I have a really crowded area in the 2. I first ran N at 2. My problem comes with the signal strength of the 5ghz. I had great strength at 2. Have these updated firmwares done anything to improve signal performance, or should I leave my router alone if it's working in the current state?
I might give this DD-WRT a try for the heck of it anyways, but I wonder if anyone has had improved 5ghz signal while using it? Might want to experiment a little with the channels. Also make sure your signal bandwidth is set to 40 Mhz not After upgrade I entered But when I click on tabs I get this: Authentication Required. Please note that the default username is "root" in all newer releases No matter what username I type there it simply doesn't work!
The router name is admin with no password! I know for sure it has no password. Have you tried username "root" and no password? It can be whatever you wish. C, D, E?
Thanks for answering me! At the beginning, after dd-wrt firmware installation, in the user and password fields there were already hidden characters it says something like "the default user "admin" it's very common and it's recommended to change bla-bla-bla Here is the end of this short story.
The first screen you see after install asks you to create a user. This can be whatever you want. Yes, the form field looked as if they're already filled in. Ignore that. Just click on them, delete and type your. Just some pointers:. If you can't get back to that first screen, go into the emergency room instructions below and upload the firmware again. Note: The "set your IP manually" part is very important. Good luck. Have tried some startup scripts with no luck Your last post seems to solved my problem.
I'm glad you sorted it out. It doesn't matter if your router assigns your IP dynamically or statically. The settings are the same for both. You don't need to set anything else. Those are different WAN settings and override each other.
You only need to configure PPPoE. Here's my configuration and it reconnects on reboot. Everything works really nice so far, its much of an improvement to the original firmware! Does somebody know how to get this button to work, this would be the icing on the cake but even if it doesn't work, DD-WRT is great!
Seems like my DIR C1 wont do any firmware upgrades. I have tried it in emergency mode too and nothing. Can someone help me out? I have tried it in. That is very strange. Is there any specific error you receive?
I'll try the one you linked. This needs to be replaced with the actual date. Anyway, did the one I linked to work? Try a different one. I'm trying to restore the original firmware, but keep halting on this section. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using XP, btw. Google chrome. But i'll try IE. Yeah i need to know how to set the IP manually to Any of the native firmwares don't connect to L2TP, and the current drops connection sometimes, and I have to reboot the router to restore it.
Need help! I have one question: If I use dd-wrt firmware the wireless will work better better signal? Thank you! I'm glad i did it. Now my wireless devices can actually connect and stay connected. So far all i have done is change the router username and password, and setup the WPA2 personal security. Is there anything else i should do? It's been 3 days and I'd like to revert back to the old settings since one of my laptops is no longer connecting, but I can't.
Please help. Click "local area connection". A dialog box will pop up and click on "properties". Select "internet protocol version 4" select on "use the following ip address" enter the IP address Click ok -- ok -- ok Pretty much what jl said. Add netmask as If you still can't manage it search on Google for: configure fixed ip settings windows xp, or something similar.
There are countless of guides that contain images. This is a Windows operation. It has nothing to do with DD-WRT or D-Link or routers, so it is kind of pointless to wait 3 days for an answer on a forum dedicated to these when you can find the solution within minutes on Google. Also, weird with the laptop no longer connecting though. Have you modified any of the settings? Flash from emergency room. I think so, yes. But I can't guarantee. It really depends on your environment, wall composition, thickness and that sort of thing.
There are a few things to try, like changing the wireless channel to various settings. Maybe you're in a wireless crowded area where multiple routers use the same channel. That would cause poor performance. Also set the bandwidth to 40 Hz, so you can get double rate from the two antennas.
One thing's certain though. With DD-WRT you will not get the wireless disconnects lots of people experience with the factory firmware. You can also set static dhcp leases and port forwarding if you know what those are or need them. Otherwise, you can just use it with default settings. Nothing else except the wireless security is critically important. Select "internet protocol version 4" select on "use the following ip address" enter the IP address.
Thanks for the help, guys! I got the white page with the browse and upload button this time. However, when I tried to send the d-link firmware that I downloaded, it said "problem loading page" after about a minute.
I definitely downloaded the right firmware for my particular router. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm using Firefox, btw. Also, try the upload with Internet Explorer.
Didn't work the first time stopped halfway but worked the second time! And my laptop's internet is working again! Thanks, though. No problem.
Glad you worked it out. I had mixed mode selected already. Changed it to AES. I can't flash via the FW upgrade window. Plus my white page says something about language lab. When using IE when I press send I get a error screen and I never see anything that shows that anything completed. When I press send it sits and says loading, but 10 minutes later and it's still loading. Do I need to set up a wired port on the ?
Do you use the internet port and use a crossover cable? Also I need to hold the reset button in for 15 seconds when booting. Anything less and the unit comes up in regular mode power led is on solid This has been dropping every day and I'm tired of power resetting it. Connect the cable to one of the LAN ports preferably the first and remove all others except power. No crossover required. More detailed instructions on how to access the ER are on in this guide first post.
I've read through this entire thread a few times to see if I'm missing something. I change the static address Do I also need to enter the default GW?? As I said I never see any clock or indicator showing the download status. I'll try it again tonight and make better notes of the error's I receive. I can connect fine the normal way The router is back to the default config.
I have a D-Link Dir Rev. D3 - Firmware 4. I have a few misunderstandings and i need some help. If i can not succeed installing DD-WRT firmware or i am not fully satisfied whit it, i probably want to reinstall my original D-Link firmware. But i can not find a firmware for D-Link Dir Rev. What can i do? If i successfully install DD-WRT firmware, is it possible after that to reinstall the original D-Link firmware, supposing i find the firmware file that i need?
Thanks in advance. D firmware is 4. You need to do it from the emergency room, which is basically just a white Web page with an upload button. Instructions on how to access the Emergency Room are provided in the first post the guide.
Hope it helps. This is weird. I never heard anyone else report these problems across different browsers and not being able to flash from either the factory firmware interface or the emergency room.
About the inability to ping That's normal. While in emergency mode, the router doesn't respond to ping. I'm still waiting for some more detailed errors if you have any or some screenshots.
It was very helpful. Yes, I tried all of the firmwares for my router. But I flashed from the dd-wrt interface. Does it matter? Why battle? What file did you use for the flash and how did you do it? Quote from: 91 XR7 on January 09, , AM found out that the power light doesn't turn on anymore? Maybe there's a newer build that fixed it. Either way, it's not anything critical, it's just a led. This got fixed in later releases, but as I said, it's not a matter of big concern.
I don't see why not. Have you tried and it's not working? Read another thread on this site regarding E3 hdw and Emergency room. That helped. I ended up using a Win 98 laptop with IE 5.
Wow ;D Well, glad you sorted it out though. The interface should work now in pretty much any modern browser. It just three tries to get it to load. I also tried the D-link interface, but it said the file wasn't correct, then went to the ER and on the second time that way, it took. There have been 12 new builds since in July. Maybe it solves the power led problem. Regarding the Airport Express, I never owned one, but from what I read it has routing capabilities.
You might want to ask at an Apple Store or search on the Internet, to what extent it can be paired together with home routers. Or do you have to go through the FTP site only? The ones listed through the "router database" are the "stable" versions, sort of. The ones from the FTP, which get updated quite often, are more like development builds, which contain small bug fixes.
Nothing major like new features etc. However, in my experience they are stable enough. I update quite often to the latest build and I never encountered a regression where some feature got messed up. If you update, let us know if the led issue got fixed.
Thank you so much for all your help. I haven't installed it yet so it still has standard firmware on it. I have a bluray player in my living room where I can't run a long ethernet cable to. I want to connect the bluray player to this D-link router via ethernet cable so I can use Netflix and also DLNA, and have the Dlink communicate with my main router wirelessly.
So I am assuming I need the Dlink to be a wireless bridge, or would it be wireless client? Not sure what the difference is between Bridge Mode and Client Mode. Oops, one last question. I read where people had to modify the bin file with a hex editor. Would I need to do that, and if so, I do I know what code to replace with? You cannot do what you want with the factory firmware, not over wireless at least.
People have reported trouble in setting it up, even with your particular model. Not sure if they didn't follow the instructions correctly or if there were problems between the routers.
You'll have to test for yourself. I have a D1 and I never did this setup myself, but I can help you with things you don't understand or to troubleshoot. My answers won't always be timely, though. With that out of the way, let's get into it.
First of all, flashing. You can do both ways, but emergency room is the safer choice I guess. People have reported problems with browsers other than IE though, so use IE 7 or 8. In that case you can try using the WAN port for wired connection to your blu-ray player.
Just check the "Assign Wan port to a switch" option if you have it. But let's tackle problems as we encounter them. So, feel free to start testing. Ok, I just downloaded the file you referenced and will flash. I think I'll go for the emergency room method and hope it works. No problems at all. Right now I have it streaming to my bluray player as the main router. It's working great. But I still want a wired connection with the bluray player because it performs.
Right now using wireless, I'm getting about Mbps.
