You may get a hint out it…. Are you referring to WD software preinstalled in your external drive? If this is the case you have to disable Virtual CD functionality from your drive. Stop all backup programs. If that option fails you should claim for a replacement if it is under warranty. Your drive may be suffering from hardware fault.
Note: Click the Kudos star to say thank you for helpful posts. I know that the drive is still spinning, windows is still able to detect it… but why is it like this? Support Downloads Knowledge Base. German Spanish Italian French. HGST Support. What drive are you use please state the model. The post was probably moved to because it was probably in the wrong section. I then reinstalled the My Book but this changed nothing.
How can I find out what, if anything, is matter with my My Book and if it is fixable. Many thanks for any advice.
Do you have the same issue if you connect your drive to another computer? Also, do the blue light rings alternate between the inside and outside rings? The GB unit we tested offered the most mixed performance of any external hard drive we've tested. Though we love its design, capacity, and small size, we were a little disappointed with its overall performance.
All these drives cost about the same, though the Iomega also offers FireWire connections. All have backup software, as well. Pretty darn heavy and bulky. I guess that's to be expected when you have two GB sandwiched together. Overall Review: There's no technical reason not to rate this a 5 excellent , but if I had to pick another drive I would buy something slimmer.
You really need both hands if you plan to carry this drive or move it around. Cons: Works under Windows but had a catastrophic failure after 3 months.
Fortunately had a tape backup from 2 days earlier. Don't let RAID 1 mirror provide a false sense of security! Not recommended for a server or business environment. Upon failure, 2nd drive did not continue working. After 11 hours of "rebuilding" the array appears as unformatted drive.
First and 2nd level Western Digital support consisted of offering to replace the device. Pros: I love the amount of storage that this thing packs. Although there are faster alternatives, I've only used the USB2. It transfers at expected speeds for USB2. You can hard shutdown the book if it won't turn off on you buy holding down the power button for about 5 seconds.
Just make sure you aren't causing any action on the drives or you might lose data if you hard shutdown. The amount of ports available is very nice, especially at this price. It's attractive! Looks nice anywhere you put it. The blue lights are not blindingin anyway. I stress the word LOUD. I've also had this overheat on me twice during a GB continuous back-up on a 90 degree day.
